In Honor of Mom
Several
years ago (before I had children) I wrote a letter to my mom and
placed it in a special fabric-matted frame to let her know how much
I loved and appreciated her. The letter was unique because it
centered around fabric. Well, not really, it centered around the
memories the fabric brought to my mind.
So, in
honor of our mom, Rita Lovejoy, I offer my special letter for this
Mother's Day "Mom-e-Moment".

Dear Mom ,
The other morning
as I was getting ready for my day, I opened my closet to find
something to wear. As I glanced over my clothes, an overwhelming
realization hit me. I first saw my Easter dress you made me only a
few months ago. Then looking further, I saw the dresses you made me
before I got married. Standing there looking in my closet, I didn't
see clothes; I saw love...and time you'd given me through the years.
From that point my mind went back to many birthdays when you stayed
up till all hours of the night, hand-making birthday treats for all
the kids to take home. I remembered all the Halloween costumes you
made us. We always thought we wanted the bought ones, but now I
realize how special those outfits really were. By taking so much
time to make them yourself, you were making me feel so important.
You've made everything from sweetheart banquet dresses and prom
formals to my bridal gown. There is no way I could ever count the
hours you spent sewing for me.
Mom,
standing there in front of my closet, the awesome reality hit me
that I could never in this lifetime repay you for all the love
you've given me...not even the love I saw in my closet. With tears
streaming down my face I cried out to God, "Does she really know how
much I love her and appreciate all she's done?" Then I realized
that's just the way it is with God's love. There is no way we could
ever repay God for the love He's shown us.
I
sometimes feel so far away from the selfless love I see in you. But
my prayer is that someday I might be able to share a small part of
your love with my children. Mom, thanks for the love of God you've
shown with every stitch you've sewn.
I love you, Mom
Laurie

Have a blessed Mother's Day enjoying "These Days" with your
