All Tied Up
My daughter and I were riding bikes one day when we were on tour in California. We stopped to get some ice cream when a pigeon sort of hobbled by our outdoor table. We looked at him thinking he had an injured foot. But when we looked closer, we found that he had a piece of string wrapped around both of his feet. There was nothing wrong with him. He was just tied up.
We felt so bad for the pigeon. We walked toward him and he hopped and flew away a short distance. We tried hiding behind one of those mall cart things and catching him from behind. We talked sweetly to him. One of us tried to distract him while the other sneaked up from behind. We tried luring him with pieces of ice cream cone. We even picked up a stick thinking that if we could get the stick between his legs, we could help him. (Can you imagine the commotion if that had happened!) We wanted desperately to help him, but everything we tried failed because the pigeon didn't trust us.
What has you all tied up? Maybe it's waiting for a job change for you or your husband. You could be worried that you aren't being the mom your kids need, or that your marriage is falling apart, or that your husband may be about to be deployed. You could be longing for a raise, waiting for your house to sell, waiting to get pregnant, or waiting to hear results from a medical test. Maybe your child isn't performing as well at school as you had hoped, or maybe they have a special need that constantly binds both of you.
The list is endless. When we focus on situations, we are like that pigeon, hobbling around, not meeting life with all that we are capable of. But, the things that tie us up can be seen clearly by God.
Ps. 25:15 says, “My eyes are ever on the Lord for only He will release my feet from the snare.” Rather than focusing on the struggles, we can lean on the Lord. We can trust Him. Only He can loose the ties that bind.
Lord,
As we face each day, troubles will come. But, nothing can catch you off-guard. I pray that you would make it our first reaction to put our eyes on You instead of our circumstances. Thank you for caring desperately for us. Help us trust you. In Jesus' Name, Amen
