Remembering Sydney
1999-2007

So many of you have prayed for Sydney, our cousin. Thank you. She received the "ultimate healing" when she entered the presence of Jesus earlier this month.

During the memorial service, I sat in awe of the Lord as I heard the stories recounted of how He was present in every detail, each step of the way, making Himself known not only to Sydney and her family, but everybody who came in contact with them. Eight-year-old Sydney was released to her Lord early Monday morning, October 1, with her parents, brothers, grandparents, and aunts close-by as well as medical staff who had grown to love her and her family. We won’t know the number of individuals mourning her death, or more importantly the masses of people touched by her life - until heaven.

Marcee (one of Sydney’s aunts) told of reading a paragraph from Oswald Chambers’ biography. When asked, “What is God doing?” Oswald answered, “I never look at what God is doing. I always look at who He is.” Looking at circumstances is confusing, but who God is never changes. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. We live in a fallen world where horrible things happen to amazing people. Yet, God…He is there.

The song written below by Matt Redman has become our family theme spurred on by Sydney’s illness. In the good, in the bad…Blessed be the name of the Lord.

Blessed Be Your Name

Blessed Be Your Name, In the land that is plentiful
Where Your streams of abundance flow, Blessed be Your name

Blessed Be Your name, When I'm found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness, Blessed Be Your name

Every blessing You pour out I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord, Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord, Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord, Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be Your name, When the sun's shining down on me
When the world's 'all as it should be, Blessed be Your name

Blessed be Your name, On the road marked with suffering
Though there's pain in the offering, Blessed be Your name

Every blessing You pour out, I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord, Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord, Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord, Blessed be Your glorious name

You give and take away, You give and take away
My heart will choose to say, Lord, blessed be Your name.

Following Him,

Sharon

From Her Mother's Heart

(This entry was posted on Sydney's website by her mother shortly after her death.)

Dear Faithful Friends,

I cannot explain it, though my heart was breaking and in pain, as I sat with Sydney and my family Sunday night I continued to have hope. I wanted with all my heart for Sydney to live and I knew that at any moment if Jesus said to her "Get up and walk," she would. I also knew that if He did not she would be with Him in Heaven, and in a blink of an eye we will be with her. That is Hope.

He ushered her into His arms as the new day was dawning. Her face had been completely restored and she was beautiful. What a gift.

I looked back at my journal on the plane ride home and it was so hard to read and recognize how painfully hard this struggle was. I knew it was hard, but never to the depth that those words showed me. I see now that I didn't see it because Christ was sustaining me each day and Sydney. I don't know how else we could have faced all that we faced. He made Sydney, and He made her just amazing. She faced everything with strength, faith, and courage. She was not fearful. I thank God for truly sustaining her.

Words cannot express my gratitude to all of you. Through this website, mail, calls, prayers and e-mails you have ministered to me through this entire journey. As much as Sydney loved the attention, she did not want to be the center of attention. She wouldn't want to be now. She would ask us all if we know Jesus. I told her from the beginning that she was a little disciple and that 100's of people were seeking the Lord because of her. Christ brought us all together through Sydney and taught us how to pray and seek His face. Please continue to seek.

We love you and have felt so much love from you,
Thank you,

Love,
Lynette
